Episode 202: Mother’s Day Brunch

“Eating well and eating healthy is something we have both been really aware of and want to achieve. Growing our own food was really the best and only way to do that.” Sarah, Blue Fire Farm

Mother’s Day and Brunch go hand-in-hand…and good eggs make all the difference. In this episode, we visit Blue Fire Farm in North Yarmouth where Sarah and Mark create a space that is nurturing, bountiful and where Kramer the Rooster and Fran the Guard Goose are both always eager to share their thoughts.

We spend time with their heritage chickens and ducks–who might be some of our cutest guests yet. They lay an array of rainbow eggs that are available for sale at the farm and at small shops around town. They claim that happy chickens equal happy eggs and after eating them, we certainly agree.

Our time with them was at the peak of Avian Flu, so their birds were safe in their giant coops. Eggs are totally safe to eat during this time, but an infected bird means the whole flock has to be culled, so Sarah and Mark make sure the birds stay engaged with extra human visits, treats and moving their perches around…and even the starring role on a tv show!

Sarah and Mark have incorporated a small orchard, loads of veggies and sunflowers that grow to be 12-feet tall into their cozy farm. They hope to add microgreens next season. Follow their adventures on Instagram at @bluefirefarm
